Crowning Glory Tutorial!!!!

I've been busy getting my craft on lately!

I recently made this little crown plaque that I'm calling "Crowning Glory."

I've received a lot of great feedback on it, so I thought I'd do my first tutorial for you.

I'm also linking up to Kimba's DIY Day... head over there and check things out!

I started with a piece of 1/4" mdf that the Prince cut for me into a 5" x 4" size, some fabulous black and cream harlequin scrapbook paper from Hobby Lobby, and a small crown that I found at Michaels a while back.

I used Mod Podge and a sponge brush to apply the paper to the mdf. I know that everyone has their own tried and true methods with Mod Podge, but I find that what works best for me is to apply it in a very thin layer, put down the paper, flatten it out, and then just leave it alone to dry.

I spray painted the crown with Heirloom White, of course.

Once the crown was dry, I wanted to add a little antiqueing. I whipped out my Maple Stain and added some to the edges of the crown.

I added it a little heavy though (see pic below).

I wasn't happy with the amount of antiqueing, so I lightly sprayed more Heirloom White on the crown. This time I used a small paintbrush to added a little stain to the sanded edges of the crown, and quickly wiped it off. Much better now. I also added some stain to the edges of the plaque and wiped it off with a damp cloth to get the effect I wanted.

Tools of the trade- the maple stain that I found at Walmart, and of course Gorilla Glue to add the crown to the plaque.

The Prince drilled a couple of holes at the top, and I added some black ribbon to hang the plaque and TA DA!!!!

I hope you enjoyed my first tutorial and that you have a ton of fun trying it! Share this idea with your friends and if you do try it, let me know cuz I'd love to see the finished product!!!!

Gettin' My Craft On

I got busy today with that awesome scrapbook paper that I got at Hobby Lobby (LOVE).

I took some small wooden pieces that I found at Michaels. The circles are 5" and the squares are 4".

Spray painted them flat black and sanded the edges.

Then, I used my Cricut to cut that awesome paper to fit the wooden pieces.

Then I again used my Cricut and the Home Decor cartridge to cut a fleur des lis and a chandelier for the round pieces.

For the square pieces I used little metal peices with sayings that I found in the scapbook section of Michaels.

I think I am going to add some ribbon to hang them with.

I also want to tell you all, my friends, of a really stupid thing I did yesterday. I got up at 5:30 a.m. got ready for a 12 hour shift at work, went in to work, worked 8 hours, and then the supervisor realized I wasn't scheduled to work. Yup, you read that right, I worked 8 hours on a day that I was never scheduled to work!!!! And, the kicker is... I won't even get paid for it!!!! Oh well.

Hobby Lobby L*O*V*E

OMG!!!! OMG!!!! OMG!!!!

Ladies, I had my very first trip to Hobby Lobby recently! Yes, very first! Until last month, Hobby Lobby didn't exist in my area here in NY.

There is only one word that will describe my feelings for this store... LOVE!!!!

Seriously, I felt like a little kid in a candy store or on Christmas morning!!!

I had heard that it was like Michaels on steroids, but I had no idea!!!!

I don't think the smile left my face the entire time I was in there, and I don't think there is one inch of that store that I didn't visit.

I tried to use a little restraint and not buy everything that I saw. Hee hee! Below is a pic of the things that I did buy.

This scrapbook paper is like none that I've seen before... beautiful! I've been searching for black and white toile scrapbook paper for months and found it!!!

Can't wait to get started on some projects with this paper!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ladies, if you have a Hobby Lobby in your area... don't walk, RUN there NOW!!!!

Veteran's Day!

Be sure to take time today to remember our Veterans today. Without their sacrifice, we would not be the Land of the Free!

Thank you to my Dad, who 40 years later, lives with the after effects of Viet Nam every single day! I love you, Dad!!!!

Thank you to all that serve and those that support them from home!!!!

DIY Day and I Can Make That!

Kimba is hosting DIY Day over at her new home. Head on over there and check out the great things that are going on!!!

I'm also linking up (so what if it's a day late) to Just a Girl's I Can Make That Party

I want to again share a few easy-peasy gifts that I created with simple mdf.

This first one was a series of 3 plaques that I created for a few of my bloggy friends as part of a craft swap. I loved them so much, I made another set for myself.

This is one that I made for my cousin when she moved into her new home. (I may have to make another for me... hee hee)

Again, this is a little something that I created for my SIL's Birthday.

Lastly is the plaque that I created for Princess Kaitlyn.

Each of these projects were created with simple mdf that the Prince cut for me. A little paint, some scrapbook paper or rubber stamps, the Cricut, Mod Podge and wella!!!!
